Your child has had a fixed type of space maintainer placed today. This device is made to hold or maintain the available space until the permanent tooth underneath erupts. We will check it at your child’s routine six-month visits.

Fixed or cemented appliances are cared for through normal tooth brushing and flossing. Extremely hard, brittle, and sticky foods should be avoided because they may loosen the space maintainer.

If the appliance becomes loose, please contact our office as soon as possible so it can be
re-cemented. Prompt care helps prevent breakage or decay underneath the appliance
