Meet the Doctor: Matthew Hurd
Dr. Matthew Hurd has dedicated his career to medicine since 2003. Over more than two decades of clinical experience, he has built his work around one purpose: keeping patients safe and comfortable when they need it most.
His training is exceptionally broad. After serving in the United States Navy, he earned a PhD in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from the University of California, Riverside. There he received the prestigious NIH Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Award, and his research was published as a first-author paper in the journal Genes & Development. He then earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery from the University of California, San Francisco. He completed his residency and Master of Science in Dental Anesthesiology at The Ohio State University, where he was selected as Chief Resident.
Dr. Hurd is dual board-certified by the American Dental Board of Anesthesiology and the National Dental Board of Anesthesiology. This distinction represents the highest standard of training and expertise in the specialty.
He also holds a faculty appointment as Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of the Pacific, Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry. In that role he helps train future dentists in oral surgery and anesthesia. His academic work keeps him at the forefront of evidence-based practice and patient safety.
As founder and Medical Director of MH Dental Anesthesia, Dr. Hurd personally provides every anesthetic. He specializes in caring for children, patients with special needs, and those with complex medical histories. He understands that entrusting your child’s care to someone else is a big step for any parent. He takes time to answer every question and remains at your child’s side from start to finish.
At home, Dr. Hurd is a devoted husband and the proud father of two young daughters. His happiest moments are spent with his wife and girls. Being a father shapes the way he cares for every child in his chair, with the same patience, gentleness, and attention he would want for his own.
