The treatment is recommended by the AAPD and the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force for children beginning when the first tooth erupts. Does fluoride treatment hurt?

How is professional fluoride different from fluoride toothpaste?

At-home toothpaste provides useful daily maintenance, but it cannot deliver the same depth of remineralization or lasting protective effect that a professionally applied varnish can. Most dental insurance plans, including Delta Dental PPO, Cigna Dental, and TRICARE, cover professional fluoride treatments for children as part of routine preventive care. Coverage frequency varies by plan, typically twice per year. Our team is happy to help you understand your benefits before your appointment. For families without insurance or with coverage gaps, we also accept CareCredit, Cherry, and HSA/FSA to help keep preventive care accessible.

What can my child eat or drink after a fluoride treatment?

After a fluoride varnish application, we ask that your child avoid eating or drinking for about 30 minutes to allow the varnish to absorb into the enamel. For the rest of the day, it is best to stick to soft foods and avoid very hot or crunchy items.
