Position Overview

As a Pediatric Dental Assistant, you will be focused on patient care and building relationships. You will be representative of Bay Area Kids Dentist’s Core Values to our Team Members and our Patients. Your focus will be creating the best environment for any family that walks through the front doors through hospitality, education, and excellence in dentistry.   Our DA’s will perform all dental assisting duties in accordance with the rules and regulations of the California Board of Dentistry.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Welcome pediatric patients and parents in a comforting manner to prepare them for upcoming treatment(s)
  • Review dental treatment consent forms with parents
  • Assist the dentist during a variety of pediatric dental treatment procedures including 4-handed dentistry
  • Sterilize dental instruments and clean and prepare treatment areas for patients
  • Process x-rays
  • Prepare cement, liners, and take impressions of patient’s teeth for certain procedures
  • Stock and organize work area with treatment materials
  • Test and maintain equipment (sterilizer, y, x-ray processor, etc.)
  • Record patient notes in chart for any patient visit
  • Educate and inform patients about proper dental hygiene and dental sealants
  • Uphold OSHA Standards and Infection Control Protocol

Qualifications

  • No experience is required however, 1 year of experience is preferred
  • Passionate about working with kids and families
  • Desire to be part of a team and build relationships
  • Fast learner and ability to retain the knowledge of new concepts
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Demonstrates knowledge of dental terminology
  • Ability to handle all patient information in compliance with HIPAA privacy and security regulations
  • Working knowledge of Gmail, google docs and other messaging systems
  • Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills with parents, children and co-workers

 Physical Demands

  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds without assistance
  • Occasional standing and bending are required
  • Regular computer usage
  • Working Environment

Bay Area Kids Dentist provides pediatric dental services for infants, children, and adolescents as well as sedation and dental care for children with special and emotional needs. Bay Area’s pediatric dentists Dr. Radwan and Dr. Metwally and all the rest of the Bay Area Kids Dentist team are specially trained to allow them to manage children’s fears and apprehensions in a positive manner.  They are also specially trained to provide dental treatments under mild conscious sedation and general anesthesia, which is recommended for certain circumstances, to lessen the mental and/or physical pain of a procedure while a child patient is awake.

This position requires deliberate patient connection starting with your personal presentation, advance planning, the anticipation of frequently asked questions, and the ability to be ahead of the curve in patient education. Your goal will be to create trust between you and each family through relationship-building. The treatment coordinator will start the consultation appointment by reviewing all the treatment options, risks and benefits of getting the treatment started, and answer any questions the parent/patient may have. Secondly, the position requires the coordinator to be an expert in presenting treatment plan options and financial estimates after getting insurance verification and breakdowns. The treatment coordinator must be able to communicate with patients/parents in a friendly and professional manner.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • As the face of the Bay Area Orthodontics, you will carry out our Mission through hospitality and patient education
  • Responsible for answering emails and phone messages in a timely manner
  • Gather and accurately record insurance information from patients
  • Review, save and update any financial arrangements and treatment consents in the patient’s file
  • Process and record monthly patient payments
  • Present weekly and monthly reports to management
  • Responsible for accurately billing all orthodontic claims
  • Manage Insurance and patient account ageing
  • Keep records of patient conversation, parent(s) questions, requests of patient records, and any other patient interaction
  • Participate in staff meetings
  • Be involved with office community outreach events
  • Perform other tasks as assigned by any doctor or management

Qualifications

  • 1 year of experience in the hospitality field is preferred
  • Knowledge of Dental terminology and insurance requirements is a plus
  • Ability to handle all patient information in compliance with HIPAA privacy and security regulations
  • Working knowledge of google docs, spreadsheets, and slack
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and interpersonal amongst parents, children and co-workers
  • Team player and self-motivated
